Book Introduction
It wasn’t all that long ago that I realized I had no connection to my dinner plate. What I didn’t know at the time was how dramatically my life would change as soon as I made the connection that the meat on that plate was there because of a life taken for my nourishment.
In the beginning ‘knowing my farmer’ was simply the pursuit of knowing that my meat was raised and harvested the way I would do it. But, as any heart-led passion does, it quickly spiraled into wanting to share this connection with others in my circle, and then complete strangers.
I’m a farmer because I believe that our communities are stronger when we can make deeper connections with our food. I believe our communities are more beautiful when we utilize our local resources for the betterment of the people in our lives. I believe our communities are richer when we champion those who decide to share their passions with us, and we find community only when we invest in it with ourselves.
